Many of these groups have general meetings and interest groups which encourage members to learn about their new city, its culture, activities, lifestyle, and to develop friendships by sharing interests and hobbies with each other. AMERICAN WOMEN'S CLUB OF WINNIPEG Winnipeg, MB Canada		updated Mar-2005

The American Women's Club of Winnipeg was organized under the leadership of C.P. Walker on May 4, 1917, for the purpose of doing war work - which work was continued not only during World War I, but also during World War II. During peacetime, the purpose of the Club was, and still is "patriotic, philanthropic, educational, and social" to the advancement of womankind. The AWC was incorporated in the Province of Manitoba on September 28, 1922. Because the Club valued the congeniality of mind and purpose existing between the United States and Canada, it has always fostered the spirit of true harmony between itself and this, the land of our adoption. Deeming it a particular privilege to help philanthropically, its members have donated literally thousands of hours and dollars in the Winnipeg community.

The Newcomers Club of Winnipeg is waiting for you! We are a non-profit social club designed to welcome and lend support to women who have moved to Winnipeg and surrounding area within the last two years. The Newcomers Club offers an immediate opportunity to meet new friends. Our evening Monthly Socials are held the third Wednesday of the month from September to June. Currently, our Interest Groups include Friday Morning Coffee, Restaurant Lunch, Stitch and Chat, Movie Night, Gourmet Dinner, Potluck Dinner and coffee morning where kids are welcome. Some activities are open to spouses/partners or guests. By getting involved with others new to the city, we hope that you will find the support needed to make Winnipeg feel more like home. Please call us and leave a message. A member of the Hospitality and Welcoming Committee will contact you to answer all of your questions and to invite you to your first activity. We look forward to hearing from you!
